Why Choose Adoption
Adoption is a deeply personal choice. Many women spend weeks or even months making the decision, while others may have made the decision prior to becoming pregnant as many women have explained to me throughout my career “I knew that if I ever experienced an unplanned pregnancy I would do an adoption.” or “I knew that my family was complete, I already have 3 kids and knew that I would bless another family if I became pregnant again.” or “I spent my 20s & 30s raising children, now in my 40s I want to focus on myself & my career.”
Adoption may also be a decision made for more practical reasons. Some mothers are experiencing a lack of support - emotional, physical, and financial, are experiencing housing instability, loss of income, medical concerns, struggling with addiction, or working towards their academic and career goals. Whatever the reason adoption may be a viable option for you & your child.
Over the past 50 years adoption has improved its methods. Open adoption is now the most common type of private adoptions allowing for continued contact with the child. At Starr Adoption Services expectant parents select not only the type of adoption they want, but also select the hopeful adoptive parent. This collaboration has yielded better outcomes for children who have been adopted. In this scenario the child does not lose a parent, but rather gains more people to love them.
