Facing an unplanned pregnancy can be scary and feel overwhelming in the moment. You may feel anxious, happy, confused, or scared. The first thing to do is to stay calm and try not to panic. You have options as you process your positive pregnancy test and potential next steps. There is time to process your pregnancy, your options, and your decision. Starr Adoption Services is here to help and support you if you feel that adoption may be your path.

Processing an Unplanned Pregnancy

While many women feel a flood of emotions when they initial discover their pregnancy, the shock of a positive pregnancy test tends to fade over time. The “I’m Pregnant!!!!” turns into an “I’m Pregnant” and the ability to process through what this pregnancy means for you (and the father) begins to feel more manageable. When you pause, you give yourself room to think without the pressure of the initial emotions associated with learning that you are pregnant.

If you are considering adoption as a possible option you can connect with Starr Adoption Services by calling, texting, or completing a contact form. Our Starr Options Counselors are available to discuss your options with you and process through your feelings. We offer judgement free, supportive, consistent services to allow you to process through YOUR decision.

Considering Options

Looking into your options and the realities attached to your options can help you to process through your options in a way that feels less intimidating. There are many questions to consider when weighing your options:

  • Who is available to support me? Assessing your support in making your decision is important. Do you have people in your life that will aide you in making a decision without pressuring you into what they think is best for you? The decision to parent or create an adoption plan should be yours.

  • Should I parent or make an adoption plan? Looking at the realities of parenting or making an adoption plan is challenging. Considering what your support system, resources, current situation (are you in school? starting a new job? ending a relationship?) can all factor into your decision.

  • Can I afford to raise a baby/child? The realities of financial stability can have an impact on your decision regarding parenting or creating an adoption plan. While many families are experiencing an economic hardship, adoption has become a resource for some seeking stability for their child.
