Choosing An Adoption Plan

Adoption Plans can be tailored many different ways to benefit the child, birth parents, and adoptive parents desires. We want you to take your time to consider the options and what feels right to you.

The Adoption Plan Type is selected by the Birth Parents. During the adoption process Starr Adoption Services also allows the Birth Mother and Birth Father to each independently decide what type of adoption plan fits each individual person.

Closed Adoption: These are the least common type of adoption plan currently. While some birth parents feel that this is the best option for them, it is the most restrictive sort of adoption plan resulting in limited exchange of information and no continued relationship during the child’s age of minority.

Semi Open Adoption: Often referred to as a “middle ground” plan, these adoptions are distinguished by an exchanging of non-identifying information. While contact occurs with the agency as an intermediary exchanging letters, pictures, information, and etcetera there is typically not direct contact.

Open Adoption: As the name suggests these adoptions are the most communicative. These types of plans may consist of things such as quarterly pictures and updates, an annual in-person visit, and forward momentum towards direct contact (if not already occurring by the time of finalization).

Our Approach

In addition to considering your values, preferred family type, and other preferences, we also seek to match birth and adoptive families who have similar goals for ongoing contact & connection.
