Addressing An Adoption Fall Through

Adoption fall throughs are a very real part of the adoption journey for many families. While agencies & other adoption professionals try to mitigate theses situations by assessing the expectant parents, risk factors, and completing due diligence sometimes these efforts still result in a family going home without the child that they had hoped for.

While the goal of Starr Adoption Services is to still grow your family, there is also a need to pause and honor the grief and loss that you are likely feeling in this moment. You have bonded with a child, who did not make it to your home, and the pain associated with that is deep.

We can never promise you that a fall through will not happen, it is a risk associated with every adoption plan, we do hope to help you work through this loss. While not required, Starr Adoption Services offers free grief and loss therapy to assist our SAS Families in processing this traumatic event. When you are ready, we add you to our Stork Drop List (a list of families, if any, that have experienced a fall through that gives priority presenting to baby born or short match cases). It should be noted that in these cases your family would still need to meet the parameters set forth by the expectant parents & would have to be selected by the expectant parents.
