Types of Adoption Plans

  1. Closed Adoption: These are the least common type of adoption plan currently. While some birth parents feel that this is the best option for them, it is the most restrictive sort of adoption plan resulting in limited exchange of information and no continued relationship during the child’s age of minority.

  2. Semi Open Adoption: Often referred to as a “middle ground” plan, these adoptions are distinguished by an exchanging of non-identifying information. While contact occurs with the agency as an intermediary exchanging letters, pictures, information, and etcetera there is typically not direct contact.

  3. Open Adoption: As the name suggests these adoptions are the most communicative. These types of plans may consist of things such as quarterly pictures and updates, an annual in-person visit, and forward momentum towards direct contact (if not already occurring by the time of finalization).

We are available to walk you through these considerations & also want you to know that there are many ways to design your plan. This is your plan, and we want you to be comfortable with it!
