ICPC -Interstate Compact for the Placement of Children

ICPC is a common acronym you will hear as you explore the adoption. ICPC is a federal regulation related to children in the custody of an adoption agency of child welfare who are going from one state (typically their birth state or state of residence) and are moving out of state with their prospective adoptive parents or placement.

While sometimes families can be eager to get home quickly it is important that a prospective adoptive parent(s) wait until both the sending and receiving states approve the ICPC and give the agency the green light for you to go home. This system is in place to ensure the safety of vulnerable children.

Your Adoption Professionals will be regularly checking the status of your ICPC. We ask that you follow ICPC rules and regulations by remaining in the state as you await approval to go home.
