Some women experience pressure, shaming , and guilt from others stating “I did it why can you?” or “I can’t believe you would consider that.” During thsis time of need you are experiencing those statements are filled with judgement in a time when you need & deserve love, support, and most of all respect for you to decide what is right for you & your child.

Every woman has different circumstances and different desires for their life & the life of the child that lead them to the option of adoption, some reasons shared from expectant mothers of why adoption was the right decision for them include:

Minimal Support:

Raising a child without significant support from family, friends, your partner, or others can at times create additional stress. Absent the support you need financially, emotionally, physically, or otherwise may lead you to consider adoption.

Not Prepared for Parenthood or Not Ready to Take on Another Child:

It is okay to not feel ready to parent or to feel that bringing home another child is beyond what you can do today. Knowing yourself well enough to make a decision that keeps both your current life & the child’s current needs intact is loving and honest.

Financial Circumstances:

Your pregnancy may come at a time that your financial situation isn’t consistent with your hopes of what you hoped to provide for you & your child and that is okay. While we always encourage you to apply for community services and other support. We understand that at times this may contributes to your desire to find financial stability for your child through adoption.

Completing School or Further Your Career:

Pursuing your educational and career goals is admirable & many women spend years working towards these goals. You may feel that the timing of your pregnancy does not align with your other goals. It is okay to consider adoption to afford you the time & ability to meet your personal goals. Creating the additional stability you are working towards is not selfish, it is absolutely reasonable to want to continue to move toward your hopes & dreams.

Unstable Housing:

Many people experience homelessness or unstable housing & feel having a child in an inconsistent housing situation could be dangerous, stressful, or scary. We recognize that this is a situation that can be managed depending on your circumstances & supports. We also see that you making a decision for your child to be in a stable environment displays an amazing ability to place the needs of your child first.

Personal Health:

Health is often not fully inside of the control of any person. If your physical or mental health places barriers to you choosing parenting, adoption may be an option for you. Open adoptions specifically are designed to allow you to watch your child grow while also being able to take care of yourself at the same time.
