How Do I Create An Adoption Plan?
Experiencing an unplanned or untimely pregnancy can be the start of a profound journey for many expectant/birth parents. Choosing adoption is not always an easy decision, but it is one filled with love and sacrifice.
Contact an Agency: The initial step may be contacting a licensed and reputable agency such as Starr Adoption Services to schedule an opinions neutral conversation to discuss your options related to your pregnancy, provide answers and support to help you make the right decision for you.
Complete an Intake: If you decide that adoption is the right path for you, you can complete an intake with the adoption agency.
Select a Family & Decide on Openess: Deciding on the criteria and values you would like the adoptive family to posses is a critical step. And is importantly tethered to also deciding on the type of adoption you would like to have open or closed. You can check out some SAS Adoption Ready families here.
Meet the Adoptive Family: Either in person, via telephone, or by video-chat your SAS counselor will schedule an introduction call between you and your adoptive family.
Meet your Attorney: Starr Adoption Services believes that birth/expectant parents should have legal representation to explain the adoption process, answer questions, review legal questions related to the adoption, etc. Starr Adoption Services recommends and can provide legal representation to the expectant parent through a non-employee lawyer who is skilled at adoption law.
Create Your Hospital Plan: This plan helps you to be able to tell the hospital who you want present at the hospital during your labor and delivery and for what points in the process, how much time you would like to spend with baby, if baby can spend time with the adoptive family, and more. This is not written in stone, this is a guide provide to the hospital, but you can change your mind at any time during your hospital stay and make adjustments to your plan.
