How Do I Start An Adoption Plan?

Developing an adoption plan as an expectant or birth parent is free to you & allows for you to make decisions related to the adoption. There are four key steps in developing an adoption plan.

  1. Select an Adoption Professional to work with: This person can be an adoption attorney or a reputable agency such as Starr Adoption Services who are available 24/7.

  2. Select an Adoptive Family: While not all of our families have online Snapshots many do. You can browse our families, and additionally your dedicated SAS Options Counselor will also present you with hopeful adoptive families that meet your desired characteristics.

  3. Decide on Openess: Deciding what level of contact you would like with the family before, during, and after delivery. As well as how much contact you would like with the family & child through the age of 18. The type of adoption you select is characterized as open, semi-open, or closed.

  4. Develop a Hospital Plan: This plan allows for you to communicate what your desires are at the hospital. This plan may include who you want to be in the delivery room, how much time you want to spend with baby, if you want baby to be able to spend to with the adoptive family, and more. It helps to present your wishes to medical staff & to have everyone on the same page. However, you can make adjustments to your plan at the hospital.
