Homeless/Unhoused and Pregnant, what are my options?
Discovering you are pregnant is an emotional time in any woman’s life. There are feelings of joy, fear, excitement, and worry associated with pregnancy & these feelings can feel exasperated when you are experiencing economic challenges or housing instability.
Being pregnant does not mean that you have to do an adoption. There may be community resources in your area available to help you maintain your child with you. For mothers in Arizona you can explore community resources for pregnant woman. You may also want to explore your support system to determine if there are friends or family members who are willing and able to help you through your pregnancy and after the baby is born.
Adoption is an additional option for mothers who are struggling with housing instability. Particularly an open adoption in which you are able to receive updates, pictures, and potential visits may seem like an option for mothers who feel that their current pregnancy and economic stressors are not timed well together. There are many supportive services available to mothers during their pregnancy and also post placement for a short while to assist with housing, food, and other practical needs.
